- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2021I found this series after reading the first five volumes of Sunstone. I have never been a part of the lifestyle first hand. This sens has helped me understand more about swinging. This is a great story so far. I eagerly await the next volume.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2021Volume 3 of Yishan Li and Matt Hawkins's sexually adventurous couple, Dan and Cathay continue. Vol 2 had left us expecting a Dan to become a more active partner as the couple slowly moves deeper into the swinging life style. Instead, he reverts back to his cautious self. Cathay is mostly ready for them to experiment further. Wife sharing, threesomes, foursomes and a toe into the orgy scene. He has rules and reluctance.
Besides the almost carefully dawn art work of always beautiful people en flagrante, Volume four has a few more reminders that all of their fun takes place in part of a larger reality that includes curious young children and a suspicious mother-in-law. Even as dating is a snake pit for single folks finding the right matchups for couples with rules remains a matter of rules before looks, and looks before anything else. The swinging waters are as shallow as all relationship building and navigating is work.
What stays constant with the earlier volumes is the series is consciously a how to guide. There is little effort to over romanticizes the journey. Either the female leads in full agreement or the question of consent remains a problem. Being a young couple, they have no time for bellies going slack or the usual indications of child birth. It continues to bother me that Cathay is Asian, but she is never drawn as such and her ethnic persona only seems to be acknowledged when she is dealing with her mother. Volume three ends with the usual instructional paragraphs, guidance for newbies. The storyline ends with a real world change up that may make volume 4, if there is one a much steeper lesson in life as a swinger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couples and communication
Book three in 'Swing' a series of paperbacks about Dan and Cathy, a married couple who are experimenting with and getting further into such. This is not a jumping on point. New readers should start with volume one. Regular ones, read on.
This is of course a strictly adults only read, with adult themes and scenes throughout.
This volume runs one hundred and twenty eight pages. Although this wasn't originally published as individual comics, there are some chapter break pages in this one. So you could read it not all in one go if you wish.
Art and colouring are done by the same creators as on previous volumes.
Picking up from the end of book two, there was a little something left unsaid between our two leads. What effect was that going to have on them?
I can't really say any more about the plot and events of this volume without spoilers. Because it's a great read seeing how it all goes. Which was not how I expected. Which is nice because it's great to be surprised. As before though, the strength of this is that it is a story about grown ups. For grown ups. Doing grown up real world things. I love Superhero stories, but this is nothing if not different.
All the things that happen and the dialogue all feel firmly character rather than plot driven. And it's absorbing as a result. Because it has made you care about these two so you want to see how it goes for them.
It does offer interesting insights into the lifestyle also. And a lot of good food for thought about relationships. Most importantly communication.
It does end in a way that will leave you desperate to get to book four as soon as possible.
There are cameos from other characters from other comics from this publisher. But you don't need to have read those to get into this. There is a handy footnote for one.
It ends once again with an interesting information section and a recommendation for other comics that might appeal also. All of which I will say are worth a look.
A really good read. I look forward to getting to book four.

5.0 out of 5 stars La dovuta continuazione
Questi libri a luci rosse della Image sono sempre di soddisfazione. Affrontano il lato umano delle cose e mettono i personaggi in contesti realistici. Non c'è termine di paragone con la media dei contenuti a fumetti per adulti.
