The gritty nature of Spawn drew me in as a young reader when the character debuted. Author and artist Todd MacFarlane scripts for this latest issue, an entry which showcases the supernatural action and intrigue that make this series work so well.
Spawn is under arrest, but of course there are surprises along the way. In characteristic gritty fashion, there is violence along the way, and we are left with an especially effective cliffhanger in this issue.
Here's hoping this aesthetic makes its way into the long-gestating updated Spawn film we have been promised these many years, since the first film in 1997.
