4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 374 ratings

THE END IS NEAR. AND THE TRUTH WILL BE REVEALED.

Batman's city is burning.

In the months since Commissioner Jim Gordon fell from grace, criminal empires have risen. Martial law has been declared. Arkham Asylum has been emptied. Bruce Wayne has been bankrupted. And Gotham City has been torn apart.

Batman and his allies have fought their way up the food chain, and put down a slew of madmen and masterminds. Yet each hard-earned victory and stunning revelation has left them no closer to the true power behind it all.

But what if the truth was right in front of them all along?

Even as an army of the Dark Knight's deadliest enemies is unleashed upon the city, he must fight through the terror and focus on the clues that will lead him to his final foe...

The year-long weekly saga that rocked the world of Batman to its core reaches its stunning conclusion in BATMAN ETERNAL VOL. 3. Written by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Ray Fawkes, Kyle Higgins and Tim Seeley, and drawn by a host of talented artists, it's the payoff to the biggest mystery in the Dark Knight's history! Collects issues #35-52.

This was the end of Batman Eternal volume 1,2, and 3. I'm glad to see that this type of comic book Art and storytelling are back , I missed style of comic book art and storytelling like this a lot. They also held up their true Batman family story, giving all the other Bat/Alfred/Robin/Red hood/New characters their own Personalities, flaws, and powers. Making James Gordon The fall guy Was a great idea, especially him going to prison as a hated ex-policeman and Police Commissioner. I enjoyed that they gave each bad guy a good role towards the story, it made for a wild rollercoaster ride, couldn't wait to read this until the end. I also like that they kept this a detective novel, it had that going for it, after all Batman is a great detective. They also showed his Bruce Wayne human side as well. I actually found Myself rooting For the Batman , "Saying come on, don't quit, get up, keep fighting". For me this was a very exciting thrill ride I even dreamed about it while sleeping and couldn't wait to read the next volume. The cartoon art or comic book art was excellent, the Various Artist's and different styles used to keep the story line alive, vibrant, and forward going was amazing, the coloring, the black and white highlight drawings that are colored in on the next page show the true artistry of this Batman comic book. I really appreciate all the hard work that went into making this a very enjoyable read and experience, I wasn't let down. I'm a 62 year old man so this took me back to my childhood, hanging out with friends and reading Batman comics, trying to figure out which of my comic books to trade. Lol. This was so good to read. Thank you. Sincerely, Charlie

Non spoiler review of story, does contain vague statements. If you're looking at this book, you're probably already sucked into the rabbit hole and are going to buy it anyway. The mystery here is really compelling and escalates to the final epic confrontation here. Something about this long meandering event after event, crammed with side plot, works best in this big ending. Batman has some great interactions with some awesome villains and our anticipation works really well with the books pacing. Everything has been hinted at to this moment from the first book and the epic state of the city has been built up slowly. It can definitely be a trudge getting to the conclusion because it is so meandering, but again, I think that works in this books favor. The reveal here is disliked by some but awesome to me. This is a big reward!! Read it!

I will be honest, the previous books in the series didn’t convince me much, but this is some solid and satisfying pay off to all of it.

The way it all comes together and gets revealed is pretty decent, even if the ending drags a bit, but I love the way it handles the idea of Batman as a symbol and an idea.

    Worthy of the subtitle "Eternal".

At times the story became almost too complicated and I needed to get back to Jim Gordon at Black gate and Batman trying to deal with the world falling apart without his strongest supporter. Bard had great potential but sold out ; I liked him though and his story could pick up again later? I get Spoiler and Bluebird confused at times. I know they are different but if they are to be regulars ,especially Bluebird needs more exposition. Penny2 is a great addition and makes Penny 1 even better, that's amazing--- to make Alfred better?
All in all a great read and I recommend.

Update: Amazon replied quickly with the replacement and sent me a new one well packaged! Great novel and a must read if you're a huge barman fan as I am

I ordered volume 2 and the package came very secure. This time around when I opened the package, the backing is ripped and both front and back covers are heavily creased. It was as if it was forced in the packaged rushed which shouldn't be a problem as it fits in perfectly. Will be returning and ordering a new one.
