Lost Dogs Kindle & comiXology

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 152 ratings

Long out of print, Jeff Lemire's Xeric-Award-winning LOST DOGS now returns in a newly remastered edition, soaked with blood and ink. This 104-page mythic yarn follows a family man who's larger than life... but even he may not be powerful enough to prevent the loss of everything he's ever known.

Bold, brutal, and emotionally raw, LOST DOGS represents an acclaimed storyteller's first professional work -- an early exhibition of the gifts that have made his ESSEX COUNTY and SWEET TOOTH so phenomenally popular.

This was a dark story that managed to pull me out of a serious funk. It's a brutal, pointless, and nihilistic story that ever comic fan should read.

The art is as ugly and bleak as the story's world.

A solid early effort. A quick heart-felt and compelling story that presages works to come. Some may find the art a touch off putting but I think it works within the confines of the tale itself.

This is not a commercial product. Its the first comic book written and drawn by a cinema student who decided that wanted to pursue another interest in life ( read Lemire's intro before reading the book ). The drawing is raw and thick. Its pure ink. Black, white and red. However this style goes so well to the story, a heartbreaking tale about love and the ties that binds. Its a sad story with a sweet sour ending. This is not an action comic neither the main character goes on a revenge rampage killing everyone who hurt his family, this is a drama, a violent tragedy in a search for inner peace.
If you are used to independent comics you will love it. If dislike comics that are grounded on reality this will not be your cup of tea.
I am very pleased with this book and definitely will buy more written by Jeff Lemire.

Super raw artwork, but the amount of emotion found in his smudged ink is incredible. Great quick little story, right to the point with everything. I'm not really a "comic book guy" but seeing Jeff's art and getting to know his characters has made me rethink what comics could be. Pages 42,43 and 84 are worth the price alone and they're pieces of art I didn't think would be found in a traditional comic.

As with Essex county, the art work is not my favorite but the story more than makes up for it. Truth be told, the art also ends up growing on you and you accept it by the end.

I find it fascinating.that people would not like this book in its entirty. I find it visually pushing every point foward although crewd at times. The rich blackness gives the very feeling of the despair that is taking place in this story. Lemire does a great job of keeping it tight simple and enough depth to make me feel for the protaginist. I would definitly recomemd it to any lemire fan. That even interested due to it being his first. So for what it is a comic writin in short format in his first venture out. My only gripe is that the binding was ridicolous the glue on the inside that hold it together was just liquified. Didnt hold up so I.had to super glue it to my dismay. But all in all haopy

This simple, brutal little tale is clearly the work of a beginner author, but the artwork and the spirit of the story shine through. It's short, blunt and to the point, and leaves you wanting more, which is exactly what I always want in a graphic novel. This story reminds me of Lynd Ward's wordless novels like "Madman's Drum" and "God's Man", simple, desperate tales in which the protagonist is doomed before the story even gets going, where the situation can only go from bad to worse. If you're looking for an uplifting ending you've come to the wrong place, but still, an interesting and compelling story from a fledgling author that would later go on to write some excellent graphic novels.

Great little graphic novel! Very powerful, simple yet bold. Love Lemire’s work and while it isn’t exactly polished, it’s raw and I loved all of it. Brilliant!
