Review

“A near-perfect graphic experience.” —Bleeding Cool

“Feels like the start of a Coen Brothers flick—Fast, slick, dark, and brutal, Death or Glory is our new obsession.” —Nerdist

“Death or Glory is definitely a high-octane speed chase of a story with plenty of shootouts, but it’s also a reflection on what it means to live as part of the invisible underclass and how expensive poverty can be.” —io9

“A cocktail that's equal parts Smokey and the Bandit, No Country for Old Men...Unique and inspired. You won't find anything like it on the shelves of your local comic store.” —The Oregonian

“We always love seeing a new creator-owned series from writer Rick Remender. That's both because Remender seems like an endless well of high-concept science fiction ideas and because he has a habit of working with some of the best artists in the industry. Both qualities are in full effect with Death or Glory...Above all, we're thrilled to see French artist Bengal tackling a long-form American comics project. This promises to be a gorgeous comic.” —IGN

One of Remender's best titles. Good characters all around. Really well paced, especially the last half. The story could have been really generic but had some nice twists that kept it interesting. Will definitely keep reading this series.

I got this because Remender wrote it, and I wasn't surprised to find it well-written and engaging. The art style I really liked as well. It had great dialogue, and an interesting setting and story. It reminds me in some ways of Breaking Bad - where an otherwise good person is driven to dangerous actions. It deals with some disturbing topics, however: human vivisection (dissection while alive), organ harvesting, human trafficking, and even a spot of anal torture. Of course there's violence and murder, but that's pretty common fare. Overall, a well-crafted story so far but I'm not sure I want more of it.

Just looking at the cover of this volume gave me high hopes for it. The main character's design reminds me of a cool female "Speed Racer" vibe, and it's just overall a sick cover.

Fortunately, the interior delivers as well. Great art from some guy I've never heard of, and the plot, while not groundbreaking, is competent and fun to read.

My only gripe is there is a *really* weird scene between two corrupt cops. It's stupidly explicit, and serves no purpose to the story whatsoever. You'll know it when you get to it, but I'm really baffled at it, and it really took me out of the immersion of the book, because it was so dumb.

It's a compelling read, so if you're into the things in the title, you might be into this. Feels like this was written with the intent to make it a show, but I went through Vol 1 quick. I'm not a big Americana fan, and this is very much in the style of something like No Country for Old Men (character here uses ice rather than bolt stunner, which seems real close to Old Country).

The storytelling is top notch but this just isn't my style.

One of Image's promising new titles. Coming fresh off the heels of Deadly Class, I craved more Remender and was enthused learning that he would be penning a new series about the American open road with artist Bengal. I feel like the art lends itself here to make for a very fluid, expressive and quick-witted storyline. Very vivid, inviting colors. Remender lays the necessary groundwork, while still managing to throw readers into the action without us feeling too discombobulated. A few scenes that might seem tonally bizarre(?), but really expected if you're familiar with the writer's work. I really actually enjoyed Glory's character overall, her motivations and am eager to read more.

One, incredible art. Just dynamic and magnificent.
Two, sadly, incredibly stupid. I mean really I’m not some elitist in storytelling, but this story is incredibly dumb. The events only happen to further the plot along, at a madcap pace so that your brain won’t pause to say “..christ this is stupid.”
Many reviews stating how this is about topical social issues like being in an underclass or something. Its such a thin veneer of concept to just be a giant ripoff of a want to be Quentin Tarrentino film.

Great Art. Love the cars. Story is good. But be warned. It can go places you didn't see coming. Kind of like a blind corner that those great looking cars, heroes, & villains all will lead you too. Enjoy.

Esperava mais, por ser de Rick Remender. É interessante, mas longe de ser a melhor obra do autor. Há um certo clima de "Agarra-me se puderes".
